Eating plant-based can seem like a very costly thing to do. And while that may be true at times, especially if you are eating all organic fruits and vegetables and indulging in pre-made plant-based products that can cost a fortune, but there are actually quite a few ways that you can take buying plant-based to the next level and still manage to save some money when you do so.
If you live near a farm, check if they offer farm share programs. By investing in the farm, you can receive fresh produce every week or two, which can help you save money and try out new foods.
Buying in-season fruits and vegetables in bulk can save you a lot of money. You can freeze or can these foods for later use. For instance, dehydrating vegetables and storing them in airtight containers in a cool, dark place allows you to access them later on.
Some farms, like apple orchards and strawberry farms, allow you to pick your own produce for a small fee. This can result in a lot of food for a lower cost.
Check local food co-ops and grocery stores that offer bulk rates on in-season produce. By planning ahead and buying in bulk, you can save a lot of money on plant-based foods.
Ensure that the produce you buy is grown without commercial pesticides or other harmful chemicals. Just because the food comes from a local farm doesn't necessarily mean it's organic.
Eating plant-based doesn't have to be expensive. By using these tips and tricks, you can save money while still enjoying a healthy plant-based diet. Remember, buying in-season produce and supporting local farmers can benefit your health and your wallet in the long run.
So, save your coins and buy local and in season, whenever possible!
